Splash Damage ends development of its team-based shooter Dirty Bomb

After three years, Splash Damage is ending all development for its class-based, online shooter Dirty Bomb. The shooter entered open beta way back in 2015, but its 1.0 version only came out in August.  This means there won't be any updates or events for the furure. As you can see below the amin reason behind the decision finance based.

"The bottom line is that we can’t financially justify continuing to work on the game we love," it said in a post on the game's official website, adding that it was "not able to make Dirty Bomb the success that we hoped it could be". - Splash Damage Statement

Based on Warchest's Directors report (see below) it seems that the plan is to hand the game back over to the community in the start of 2019. Splash Damage are going to continue to run servers if there are enough people playing. They are also going to maintain their social media and discord servers while there is enough demand.

Sadly, the player count ahs been steadily dropping so it is unlikely that servers will be kept up and running by the end of 2019. Community servers can be bought from multiplay and Faceit games can be played. However, the demand for Faceit matches has dropped with queue times increasing. Sometimes players are lucky and find a match quickly, but it regularly takes over 20 minutes. In some cases I myself, have had to wait over an hour. This just goes to show the competitive side of the game is dead.

At least they have confirmned free mercenary rotations will continue, and the game will still hold "simple events", like weekend login bonuses.

What does that mean for us?

We have decided not to support a server in the game anymore as it is unlikely that new players will take up the game. It is with a heavey heart that we have made this decision. We hope that one day we get the competitive game we have wanted from Splash Damage. We would love to see a new version of Enemy Territory: Quake Wars. This is unlikely to happen though, bad times.
