Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus is the sequel to The New Order developed by the MachineGames studio.
I have been looking forward to this game as I have played both the “New order” and ”Old Blood” games, as I do enjoy a violent FPS game. Both were very solid games that were priced very attractively at just under £15 at launch. Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus however, is a full priced game coming in at around £39.99, despite this I managed to get a copy from CDkeys for £17.99 in the Black Friday deals.
The game is set in America, 1961. The assassination of Nazi General Deathshead was a short-lived victory meaning that the Nazis have maintained their stranglehold on the world. You are back playing the role of BJ Blazkowicz, aka “Terror-Billy,” member of the Resistance, scourge of the Nazi empire, and humanity’s last hope for liberty. Basically, you are back in an FPS environment using some very powerful and sometimes over the top weapons to defeat and kill Nazis, what more could you want?
Is it all that?
Now it has been raved over by the critics, however the reviews of the PC version have been mixed on Steam. I have personally enjoyed the game so far. I like the over the top violence and guns and I must admit the game is stunning visually, especially as I am running it on max settings using a 1080ti. The number of weapons on offer is excellent and there are many other objects that can be used making attacking the enemy interesting.
The game offers numerous collectables that add more to the exploration. Soundtrack is also pretty good and although the Story might not be up to the mark it's does offer satisfying game play. I must admit it does feel like you are playing a game that is similar to the latest DooM in terms of the action as it is very run, gun... reload and repeat. The missions are about 20 minutes each to complete before a cut scene. I find this a bit annoying as some of the cut scenes are quite long. Overall, I have enjoyed the game, but I am not sure I would pay full price for it as it does not feel like you get that much more for your money compared to its cheaper predecessors
Am I happy with my purchase?
Yes, however take note that many people have had difficulties getting this game to run as it has had a number of issues over the past few weeks since launch.
